Next-Gen Sync Licensing & Royalty Tool
Architectural lead on a greenfield, cloud-native platform modernising how Sony discovers, licenses, and pays out royalties on 3M+ songs across film, AAA gaming, and global advertising.
Client
Sony Music Publishing
Stack
- Node.js
- TypeScript
- AWS
- OpenSearch
- Liquibase
- Amazon Bedrock
The problem
A legacy PHP estate couldn't keep up with catalogue scale, global teams, or the modern licensing and royalty workflows that creative partners and internal finance teams expect.
Our approach
- Defined and led the greenfield Node.js + AWS architecture for the new platform
- Architected the strangler-pattern migration off the legacy PHP estate
- Owned the search, caching, and indexing strategy for sub-second discovery on a 3M+ track catalogue
- Led the rollout of Liquibase as the schema-change standard across 30+ engineers
- Drove the LLM-assisted tagging pilot on the Hipgnosis catalogue acquisition — collapsing weeks of manual work to hours
Outcomes
- A platform now used on major films, AAA titles, and Super Bowl campaigns
- Unified architecture spanning Sync, Royalties, and CRM across multiple territories
- Delivery cadence on the new stack moved from quarterly to weekly
